Role Overview
The Whole School Librarian is a key figure in fostering a love for reading, critical thinking, and research across the entire school community. You will curate a dynamic library collection, support inquiry-based learning, and ensure the library serves as a hub for intellectual and cultural growth in line with the International Baccalaureate (IB) ethos.
Key Responsibilities
- Library Management:
- Organize and maintain a well-resourced library collection to support the PYP, MYP, and DP curricula.
- Ensure library resources are up-to-date, diverse, and accessible in various formats (print, digital, multimedia).
- Develop policies and procedures for library use and resource management.
- Teaching & Collaboration:
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources into unit plans and classroom activities.
- Provide instruction on research skills, academic honesty, and digital literacy.
- Foster inquiry-based learning by guiding students in accessing, evaluating, and utilizing resources effectively.
- Literacy & Reading Promotion:
- Cultivate a love for reading through storytelling, book clubs, reading challenges, and author visits.
- Recommend age-appropriate and diverse reading materials to students and staff.
- Organize events like book fairs, literary weeks, and workshops to engage the school community.
- Technology Integration:
- Leverage digital tools and platforms to enhance research and learning experiences.
- Manage online databases, e-resources, and the library’s digital catalog.
- Promote responsible use of technology and information ethics.
- Community Engagement:
- Serve as a resource for parents and the wider school community to support lifelong learning.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all library users.
- Actively participate in professional development and contribute to the global IB librarian network.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Prior experience as a librarian in an IB school is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of IB programmes and their focus on inquiry and research.
- Skills:
- Expertise in managing print and digital resources.
- Proficiency in teaching research and digital literacy skills.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with library management systems and educational technology tools
