Librarian: Reference and Information Literacy, Copyright, and Education

Position Purpose And Summary

The Librarian: Reference and Information Literacy, Copyright and Education provides reference/information services across all disciplines as a members of the Library’s reference team. The librarian also serves as the University’s copyright compliance officer, oversees the Curriculum Resource Centre, and is the primary liaison with the University’s School of Education.

Key Areas of Accountability

Research Support and Information Literacy

  • Provides reference and information services to students, faculty, staff and community users at various service points as scheduled, by appointment, both in-person and online.
  • Develops a working familiarity with the library’s information resources, and the University’s curricular and research needs across all disciplines.
  • Develops and manages a program of information literacy including individual/group skills, undergraduate and graduate research credit courses, and distributed learning.
  • Provides instruction to faculty and students in information literacy/research strategies with a view to equipping participants and furthering the University’s pedagogical goals. Instruction may be presented both in-person, online, or hybrid.
  • Develops tutorials and research guides for library resources and services. Participates in library orientation tours and program or course level library instruction programs.
  • Using and/or developing new applications of technology to support library programming and services.
  • Acts as part of the reference team to communicate with and serve the needs of all disciplines, with particular responsibilities for assigned liaison departments and programs.
  • Initiates and maintains contact with the University’s entire teaching faculty to foster partnerships to anticipate and support their research and curricular needs.
  • Informs faculty of relevant services and resources; solicit and discusses collection needs with faculty.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty and relevant staff to develop and encourage participation in information literacy and open access programs.
  • Contributes to the ongoing development and evaluation of library collections, in all formats.
  • Initiates and participates in needs assessment as well as in the design, implementation, and evaluation of services offered by the library.

Copyright


Education

  • Acts as primary liaison librarian to the School of Education, providing assistance with:
    • Specialized orientation, information literacy, and research support sessions, and both the undergraduate and graduate level.
    • Specialized research assistance in advanced databases, grey literature, and other research tools for both Education students, faculty and community users
    • Resourcing School of Education initiatives, including Indigenization initiatives.
  • Provides leadership, coordinates, and manages the Harro van Brummelen Curriculum Resource Centre:
    • Responsible for overseeing all CRC functions.
    • Responsible for managing Curriculum and Project Curriculum funds.
    • Responsible for selection, acquisition, organization, and weeding of materials housed in the CRC.
    • Responsible for monitoring CRC expenditures for materials, supplies, etc.
    • Responsible to liaise with internal/external educational units affecting CRC collections and operations, especially TWU’s School of Education
    • Responsible for maintaining an understanding of the B.Ed and graduate Education program of the University.
    • Responsible for providing information, point of contact, and instruction to users of the CRC.
    • Responsible for demonstrating knowledge of emerging electronic information sources.

Standards & Requirements

Education: ALA-accredited Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (or equivalent)

Experience: 2 – 3 years’ experience in an academic library required. Experience in an education library or curriculum resource centre highly desirable.

Annual Salary Ranges

General Librarian : $59,728 - $71,855

Assistant Librarian : $69,805 - $90,631

Associate Librarian: $81,207 - $108,876
