Longview Public Library Transformed into Alien, Zombie Haunted House

LONGVIEW, TX, October 13, 2025: Forget quiet reading—the Longview Public Library is ditching Dewey Decimal for doom, as hundreds of volunteers prepare to transform the entire facility into its annual "Haunted Library," featuring terrifying themes ranging from otherworldly creatures to killer animatronics.

Scheduled for October 17 and 18, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the massive two-night event will see the library’s familiar aisles and stacks morph into a terrifying labyrinth of scare zones. This year's themes draw heavily from popular horror culture, including apocalyptic zombies, creatures from the "Stranger Things" Upside Down, and an expanded area devoted to the "Five Nights at Freddy's" animatronics.

The event, which is a major fundraiser for the Friends of the Longview Public Library, attracts over 3,000 eager patrons each year. Admission is $5.00 per person (all ages).

"We definitely try to play on the popular horror themes that are in books, film and so forth," a library spokesperson noted, crediting the event's success to the community.

The sheer scale of the operation requires the dedication of over 100 volunteers, who assist with everything from prop building and detailed makeup to acting as the ghouls and monsters lurking within the stacks. Due to the high-impact scares, loud noises, strobe lights, and fog, the Haunted Library is recommended for patrons aged 10 and older.

The library will be closed for regular services on the event days to accommodate the extensive set-up and attraction. Patrons are advised to arrive by 7:00 PM to guarantee entry.
