A municipal library in Alappuzha is facing severe neglect after moving into a new building due to the poor state of its former premises. More than 50,000 books are now lying unused and deteriorating as the shelving, cataloguing and reading-areas remain incomplete.
Library staff say hours have been curtailed, readers discouraged by missing seating and disarray. Community members and local officials urge a swift overhaul so the library can resume full service and make its extensive collection accessible to students and residents once again
