In a significant move to preserve its spiritual and cultural heritage, the Odisha government has announced the creation of the "Gyana Yagnya Mandap" digital library in Puri, dedicated to the Jagannath Temple.
The facility will be established on the site of the former Raghunandan Library near the temple. Its primary objective is the digital archiving and preservation of centuries-old, rare records and manuscripts associated with the sacred site.
Key historical treasures slated for digitization include:
The Madala Panji, the temple’s historic official chronicle.
Palm-leaf manuscripts detailing temple rituals and religious scriptures.
Various administrative and cultural documents.
Administered by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), the Gyana Yagnya Mandap will feature a modern e-library system and a research center. This will allow devotees, historians, and researchers from across the world to access the temple's rich legacy, ensuring the preservation of these documents against decay and neglect.
